There’s a secret, of sorts, to Scott Wise’s business success.
Wise, ’95, founder of Scotty’s Brewhouse, started with a single site in the Village near Ball State and slowly over time, has added locations around Indiana. But what’s likely to happen next could surprise even Wise, who is the hardest worker and biggest believer in his dreams.
“As an organization, Scotty’s has been a phenomenal employer partner for us,” June said. “They work with new employees where they are with their abilities. We’ve done job shadows onsite to see an individual’s strengths, and they are willing to take time to train. Scotty’s has wonderful natural support for employees, especially those who have disabilities. Scotty’s gets it!”
Scotty’s Brewhouse opens its doors to the public at 11 a.m. today, Monday Jan. 23, at 325 S. College Ave. near the Miami University campus in Oxford. The brewpub seats more than 200 and opens with more than 80 employees, and it serves lunch and dinner seven days a week, according to Scott Wise, founder of the brewpub chain and of its affiliated brewery, Indianapolis-based Thr3e Wise Men Brewing Co.
Scott Wise (Ball State University, 1996), known for his successful restaurant business, has committed to increasing the percentage of employees with developmental disabilities to 10 percent by the end of 2017 and plans to keep up the momentum he’s already gained.
More than 20 years ago, Wise opened Scotty’s Brewhouse in Muncie, Ind. He is the founder of A Pots and Pans Production, the company behind the restaurants Scotty’s Brewhouse, Thr3e Wise Men Brewing Company and Scotty’s Dawghouse now located in 19 locations across Indiana, Illinois and Florida. The restaurants are popular, but Wise’s hiring commitment has added new energy to the business.
It all started in Muncie with a partnership with The Arc of Indiana, an organization for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc of Indiana began exploring a restaurant training ground to coordinate with the Erskine Green Training Institute, developed to provide postsecondary education opportunities in hospitality, food service or healthcare for people with disabilities.
Due North Holdings, LLC, through one of its subsidiaries, acquired Scotty’s Brewhouse, a popular Indianapolis-based restaurant concept that has carved out a niche as an “all ages welcome,” family-friendly sports bar and eatery under the direction of founder, Scott Wise. Known for burgers, American fare, dozens of on-tap craft brews, and awash in TVs, Scotty’s Brewhouse has grown to 17 locations in Indiana, Illinois, and Florida by making sure each restaurant is a unique reflection of, and connected to, the local community. Scott Wise will remain actively involved in the concept as the company grows the restaurant’s footprint nationally to new markets.
Scotty's Brewhouse and the Three Wise Men brand were sold last week to a company in Arizona. But the man who sold the Indiana chain tells Inside Indiana Business he waited for the right offer.
Scotty's Brewhouse founder Scott Wise says the chain's acquisition by Arizona-based Due North Holdings LLC is the result of years of searching for the right partner. Scott Wise tells Inside INdiana Business any deal he would accept had to keep him and the entire Scotty's team in place. Wise says his role will remain mostly the same, but with "a little bit of a twist of being more involved in the growth of the brand."
Indianapolis-based Scotty's Brewhouse has been purchased by a Scottsdale, Arizona company.
There are 17 Scotty's Brewhouse locations, including some in Illinois and Florida.
Scotty's was purchased by Due North Holdings, LLC.
Scotty’s Brewhouse is changing ownership. The announcement comes after Founder Scott Wise posted on Facebook he sold the chain to a company with big expansion plans.
Wise posted a lengthy Facebook message on Facebook Saturday afternoon announcing the sale.
